EMMA THE OTTER'S STORY

Emma needed a little time out — somewhere quiet and peaceful where she could recharge, settle down and enjoy a nap.

Life can be awfully busy, and sometimes all we really want is to find a tranquil little corner of the world where nothing is expected of us. For Emma, that place is nestled amongst the water lilies, away from the noise and bustle of everyday life.

I love creating moments like this, where an animal finds itself in a quiet, slightly surreal setting. There's something special about imagining a creature completely at ease, tucked away in its own little world, with nothing more important to do than relax and enjoy the moment.

Perhaps that's why I find these scenes so appealing. We spend so much of our time thinking about what needs doing next that it can be difficult to simply stop and let ourselves drift away for a while.

I've always wondered whether animals dream when they sleep, just as we do. What might Emma be dreaming about as she rests amongst the lilies? Perhaps she's exploring somewhere wonderful, or perhaps she's simply enjoying the peace and quiet.

Whatever it is, I hope she sleeps well. We could all do with a little of Emma's serenity from time to time
