SOPHIE'S STORY

Sleep doesn't always come easily. Sometimes, no matter how tired we are, our minds seem determined to keep us awake.

There's something comforting about imagining a quiet corner of the world where we can finally settle down, close our eyes and drift off, undisturbed and untroubled by everything waiting for us beyond that moment.

Sophie Rabbit has found just such a place, curled up against a stone cherub and tucked beneath her protective wings. It's a little scene of stillness and comfort, as though she's found somewhere she can let go of the day and simply rest.

The idea for this drawing came from my own difficulties with sleeping. I know how lovely it can be to imagine finding that perfect place where nothing can disturb you and your mind can finally settle.

The title, Rest in Peace, isn't meant literally. It's a quiet nod to that deeper kind of rest we all search for from time to time — the feeling of being safe, sheltered and free from the things that keep us awake.

Perhaps Sophie is dreaming, or perhaps she's simply enjoying the comfort of being tucked away beneath those wings.

Whatever is happening in her little world, I hope she's found the peaceful sleep we all wish for when the day has been long.
